From Job Seeker to Product Designer
For two long years after graduating with a degree in Public Policy and Administration, Joy searched tirelessly for a job. Like many young graduates in Kenya, she had the drive and ambition — but opportunities in her field were scarce. What she did have, however, was a growing passion for graphic design and a dream of building a career in the digital space.
When Joy came across the Tech Leap program: an initiative sponsored by Emobilis in partnership with the Tech Talent Hub Foundation and hosted at Zynamis, she knew it was her chance to make a bold move.
“I remember seeing the Tech Leap poster and feeling this spark, I had nothing to lose. I decided to just go for it.”
Joy.
The program provided her with practical, hands-on training in product design (UI/UX), mentorship from industry experts, and a supportive learning environment. Through immersive projects, Joy gained skills that went beyond theory — she learned how to design real solutions for real problems.
Today, Joy is a Product Designer at Sowphie, a fast-growing agri-tech startup building a mobile platform that helps farmers manage their farms remotely. From job hunting to designing tools that make a difference, Joy’s journey is a powerful reminder of how access to the right opportunities can unlock potential.
“This opportunity changed everything, I finally get to build meaningful products and grow in a field I love.”
Tech Leap isn’t just a program — it’s a bridge between talent and opportunity. And Joy’s story is just one of many.
